Turning it off
Site settings → Sharing.
Flip the Published switch off. The card dims, its heading reads "Sharing is off", and the switch now says Not published.
It stops working immediately. Anyone holding the URL sees that the board is not available rather than a stale copy of your numbers. There is no delay and no cache to wait out: a viewer with the page already open gets nothing on their next request, whether that is a range change, a filter click or a refresh.
Switching off does not touch the expiry
If the board has an expiry date, turning sharing off and on again leaves it exactly where it was. The two settings answer different questions — whether the board is published right now, and when it should stop on its own — so neither overrides the other.
The one case where switching on is not enough: if the expiry has already passed. Then the board needs both, and the screen handles it — the switch is replaced by "This link has expired", and the expiry selector defaults to Never so that saving actually brings the board back rather than restoring a date in the past.
You are told before that happens. Within a fortnight of the date, the Sharing tab shows how many days are left, right above the link.
The address never changes
Switching a board off keeps everything — the link, the section choices, the range cap. Switching it back on brings the same URL to life.
That matters more than it sounds. A board you shared in a newsletter, on X or in a client's wiki keeps the address it was published at, so pausing it for a month costs you nothing: nobody has to be sent a correction.
The same is true when a link expires. Choose a new expiry, save, and the same address works again.
What it does not do
It does not delete anything. The events behind the board are yours and stay exactly as they were. Turning sharing off only closes the public window onto them; your own dashboard is unaffected.
It does not hide the site from you. Only the public link stops.
If the address has spread further than you meant
A shared board is meant to be shared — the URL is your site's domain, which is
the point: /share/yoursite.com says what it is, and a link nobody can read is
a link nobody clicks.
So treat the board as public. If something on it should not be, turn that section off rather than relying on the address being obscure. See What a viewer can see for the full list, and note that revenue starts switched off for exactly this reason.
Deleting the site
Deleting a site removes its share link along with everything else. That is not the way to stop sharing — it also destroys the data. See the site settings for the difference between stopping collection and deleting.
