A post goes out, traffic arrives, and the referrer just says t.co. That is
where X normally leaves you: you know the visit came from X, not which post
earned it.
Turning this on answers both halves — which post sent the visit, and who is talking about you whether or not they linked.
Two separate things, switched separately
Post attribution
Finds public posts that link to your site and counts the visits each one sent, alongside revenue if Stripe is connected.
Mentions
Finds posts that talk about you without linking — your handle, or the brand terms you choose. These earn no visits by design.
They are separate switches because they answer different questions and cost differently. Attribution is about traffic; mentions are about reputation.
You never connect an account
There is no sign-in. TrueStat searches X under its own application key, so nothing is asked of your X account and nothing can be posted on your behalf. The switch is a decision — search X for this site — not a login.
That also means it works for a site whose owner has no X account at all: if someone else posts your link, we still find it.
Turning it on
Open the site's integrations
Settings → Integrations, then the X card.
Site settings, Integrations tab, the X card with both switches off, showing the post-attribution toggle and the mentions section with its handle field. Light theme, cropped to the card.
Turn on post attribution
One switch. From the next daily sweep, posts linking to your site appear on the timeline with the visits they brought.
Add a handle and terms for mentions
Optional and separate. Enter your handle — the field checks that it exists — and any brand terms you want watched.
The mentions half of the X card, with a verified handle and three keyword tags entered. Light theme, cropped.
Terms match case-insensitively and inside longer words, so truestat finds
TrueStat and truestat.io alike.
Where they show up
Both appear on the analytics timeline, as an avatar at the moment the post was published. Hovering shows the post; a cluster of avatars means several posts that day.
The analytics chart with two post avatars sitting on the time axis, one of them hovered so the tooltip shows the post text and its visit count. Light theme.
A linking post shows how many visitors it sent. A mention does not, and that is not a gap: nobody clicked anything, so any number there would be invented.
X only lets us look back seven days. Posts older than that are out of reach on the day you connect — but from then on the daily sweep keeps up, so nothing published after you switch it on is missed.
What we store
The post's text, its author's handle, display name, profile picture and follower count, when it was published, and its link — the same things anyone reading the post can see. It is kept with your site's analytics and expires with your plan's retention period.
Turning the switch off stops the searching. See the privacy policy for the full statement.
